Reagan “Mr. Rigz” Mendoza originally ‘slammed’ the stage at Albright Theater for the first annual Kinetic Poetry in 2011. His electrifying performance lit the stage on fire.
With over a decade of stage experience, as well as numerous poetry slam championships under his belt, Reagan “Mr. Rigz” Mendoza has every right to be boastful. Yet, it’s his easy-going attitude, combined with powerfully emotional performances and a passionate, lyrical poetry style that has made him a favorite at spoken word venues and poetry festivals all across the country.Rigz won his first poetry competition, the Delray Beach Grand Slam, in 2008. The win earned him a place on the Delray team as they competed in the National Poetry Slam Championship. Being turned on to the national poetry scene was a huge inspiration. Upon returning to South Florida, Reagan immediately went to work, forming his own poetry group, Chaos Theory, and performing in venues from Atlanta to Minnesota. In 2010, Rigz won his second Delray Poetry Grand Slam. In 2011, Rigz and Chaos Theory placed 2nd in the Southeastern Regional Poetry Slam. And in 2013, he was nominated for Slam Poet of the Year by the National Poetry Awards. In addition to countless poetry venues, Rigz has performed at a number of colleges and universities around the country, including the University of Miami, Northwestern University, Loyola University, Columbia College Chicago, St. Paul University, Duke, UW-Madison, and Johnson & Wales. He has been a featured artist on spoken word radio shows around the country including: Poetry Is…, Verbal Moxie, Inoculated Radio, Sounds From The Underground, PennSound Radio and The Hive. In 2012, Rigz released an album of poetry performed to original music, and is currently planning a nation-wide tour to support it. He lives in Miami where he splits his time between writing & performing poetry and his second artistic love: music production. A powerhouse on the stage, Rigz delivers an experience that resonates with audiences long after the show is over and the curtain closes. We are very excited to welcome Mr. Rigz back!
